MARES

MgB2 marine energy generation

Brussels - EU Funded project

The MARES (Marine Reciprocating Superconducting Generator) project aims to revolutionize energy generation in marine environments using advanced superconducting technologies. As part of the EU’s Clean Planet for All strategy, MARES seeks to develop a highly efficient Reciprocating Superconducting Generator (RSG), capable of enhancing the performance and sustainability of renewable energy systems in the ocean.

By leveraging cutting-edge materials such as Magnesium Diboride (MgB2) and REBCO tapes, MARES will deliver a powerful, compact, and environmentally friendly energy solution. This innovative generator design not only improves energy efficiency but also reduces the reliance on rare-earth materials, contributing to a more sustainable and circular energy economy.

MARES has the potential to reshape the future of marine energy generation, supporting the EU’s mission for carbon neutrality and offering new possibilities for renewable energy in various marine applications.

ASG Superconductors develops for the project the cutting-edge superconducting magnets (utilizing advanced MgB₂ materials) required to make the generator compact and efficient enough for wave energy converters.
